It's a chicken and egg scenario. The fans want stuff to consume that resonates with them. The media reports on it because they think it will resonate with the fans. The fans do resonate with it, and so that validates the media's assumption. If the fans don't pay attention to it, then then media wouldn't report on it. Also, if the media doesn't report on it, then it wouldn't get consumed by the fans. It's not the fans fault or the media's fault. It's just the machine that has been created.

Yesterday, the media either asked about Marner or Vegas players brought up Marner during their pre Cup final media event describing how Marner has helped their team - in about 1/3 of their media sessions. This is the Stanley Cup final and Marner is a key reason why Vegas is playing in it. So it is very much a part of the story of the start of this Cup final. Different media from around North America and the world do ask the same question different ways - often unaware someone else has previously asked the question or fishing for something.

Eichel had previously commented in the playoffs about how happy he was that Marner was "shutting up" a lot of people.
Yesterday, assistant captain Eichel spoke for several minutes about Marner - some of those minutes on how he thought Marner had been mistreated and that they had shared things that will remain between the two of them.
Marner treated unfairly while with Maple Leafs, Eichel says
So the media got what they wanted yesterday.
For Leafs fans who have some sort of a problem with reading it or whatever, try the PAGE DOWN key.

The media is like a dog having someone by the pant leg. They went after the Marner story when he was in Toronto. They're not letting it go - even though they had a hand in blowing up the whole fiasco and arguably profited from it. Their questions are attempting to stir something up because it is good for them. They'll continue to poke at it until some other story takes it over. You have to remember the fans of the other 31 teams - who are also consumers of hockey media - won't feel about it the same way Leafs fans do. NHL hockey and the media coverage of it is a busine$$

Even when it's not about the Leafs its about the Leafs because they generate revenue. Don't forget, consumption isn't just for Leafs fans. It's also for Leafs haters.

The easy answer is: No comment, but nah, let's feed the machine. McCrimmon fed the machine too. It's just what they love to do in Vegas.
 
Both Vegas and Carolina seem to be playing exceptionally defensively during moments in these playoffs. The goalies have stopped much of what they should have but I don't think they have stood on their heads. I wonder if we are seeing something special that will alter the mold for building a winner going forward. I have not been this interested in a Cup final in a long time. It is weird for me in that it is two good defensive teams that have intrigued me as defensive teams tend to bore me.

Honestly I think it's fueled more by leafs haters.
 
I did not expect a game like that. I thought they would both be better defensively.
I can't complain too much. It was a good contest.
Carolina opened the series favored.
Vegas has snatched that with home ice now

Weren't Marner and Matthews separated in the Babcock era? I thought he had Marner on a line with Tavares and Matthews with Hyman or whoever?

McMann - Matthews - Domi
Pacioretty - Tavares - Nylander
Knies - Laughton - Marner

They were separated. JT scored 47 with Marner on his wing. I think if the coaches really had total control Marner and Matthews wouldn't be stapled together like they were.
