I'd expect McKenna to reach Nylander's peak offensive levels earlier in his career (maybe even much earlier), but if we only get a 100-point winger with defensive warts I don't think that's anything to be disappointed with in a 1st overall pick who wasn't in the "generational" conversation.

As the old cliche goes, it's easier to teach defense. He has gobs of offensive talent.

Most of these offensive dynamo's aren't drafted because they have great defensive skills. Even HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED wasn't known for his defensive acumen but developed that part of his game in the NHL.

For sure, but I don't think he'll draw the same level of ire Nylander has received because Nylander does come off like he doesn't care much about defense or backchecking. I'm not saying he'll be great defensively but I think he's coachable and will show some effort.
