EDM
?Stuart Skinner (19-13-4, 2.83 GAA, .913 Sv%) will likely start for the Oilers
?Edmonton elected to start Skinner over Campbell in their first meeting against the Leafs this season. This will be Campbell's first trip back to Toronto, so that might make them more likely to give him this start but it remains to be seen at this point

TOR
?Matt Murray (11-6-2, 2.80 GAA, .908 Sv%) will start for the Maple Leafs
?The Leafs return back to the Scotiabank Arena after a 5-game road trip

I enjoyed watching Edmonton beat the Bruins on Thursday, but the Leafs need to rain all over their parade tonight!!!

Samsonov hasn't been overworked but he's at 33 games played right now.  I'm expecting that they will probably split games 50/50 down the stretch so that will have him at 43 games by the end of the year.  If he is the playoff starter and just based on current results he probably should be, that's going to end up being a big increase in games played off his previously career high of 44 games.

This is a good opportunity to give Murray a chance to be ready but also not overwork Ilya.

If Murray can stay healthy and plays just as well down the stretch here, he'll be the starter come playoff time. You go with the guy with the proven record.

Yeah. I really hope Murray is the man between the pipes come playoff time. That?s the main reason he was brought in IMO. To be that guy.  If he isn?t the guy, then his last bunch of games (the ones coming up) will have been a disaster , or it?ll mean he?s injured again :(

I was thinking about it after reading this this morning, and I actually think it's Samsonov that's earned the start in the playoffs.

He's had better numbers, and Murray just hasn't proven to be durable enough...and Murray may have been the guy years ago, but he ain't no more.

Ride the hot hand and all that for sure, but I think it's Samsonov that has earned the first right if he's just as hot as Murray.  I think you put the vet in a position to be called upon if needed.

I agree. Murray's success is far removed from him getting the net on reputation.

I guess there's still a lot that can happen in the games leading up to the playoffs, but I don't think there's any question which guy has been more valuable, even discounting injury.

That old saying: ?Dance with the one that brought you?
I think that is what their teammates would embrace.

Samsonov v Murray stats

Statistically, it doesn't seem like much of a contest.

If they hang on to home ice, Samsonov has been great at home.

I find goalies in today's NHL more difficult than ever to judge.
But my eyes and gut tells me Samsonov somewhat handily.

We're just past the 3/4 mark of the season. We'll see how that holds up and whether they can stay healthy.

Tried to look at the Bruins-Oilers game.
Bergeron (maybe that says it all - and his team) held McDavid scoreless - to one shot.
I did see some highlights. Couldn't find the game easily and quickly.
I didn't have a lot of time to spend on it. But I was more than curious.
I bet I'm not the only one trying to look that over to see what they did to stifle McDavid.

I remember them trying to shadow Bobby Hull.
Attempts happened in the NHL to shutdown stars for as long as I can remember.
History tells you it usually doesn't work for long.
The great ones always find a way.
Something to watch for tonight ... to see what the Leafs try to do.

Lafferty's got some good wheels, plays some center and has some defensive instincts ...
Leafs have last change. Maybe Matthews ...

Boston shut him down but the Oilers 3/4 lines scored.

Tampa plays Chicago. A regulation loss to the Oilers tonight could end with Tampa 2 pts behind (Leafs with one less GP) ...
All these games matter.
