So… AdBlock extensions are quite helpful (sorry tmlfans)

The way ads tend to work is there are a bajillion companies paying to put their stuff in the ad pool, and the display algorithm checks the stuff your browser/IP address has been poking around recently (using cookies) and prioritizes the ads aligned with those categories. Browsers have clean up tools for history and cookies and cached data that can reset things.

I use the Brave browser. Chrome based, but has privacy controls built in.
