Leafs looking at Josh Gorges

TOR still hoping MTL D Josh Gorges will waive modified NTC to allow trade to TOR. If so, it's believed MTL would get roster player from TOR.

Well, that's something.

Until he changes his list of teams, we aren't getting him. They had the deal worked out.

I like his character, but his salary seems a bit high, no? If I'm reading it wrong, tell me.

Just heard them talking about him on 590am, and that Kadri could be the roster player going back to The Habs. No way he's worth Kadri ?

I sure wouldn't like that trade. But, it seems inevitable that Kadri is leaving town, if you want to believe the rumours. He's in every trade rumour, why? I just don't get it.

Nazem isn't going to Montreal without PK coming the other way and losing his accent.

I'd offer Franson for Gorges.

That's really all I would do as well. Gorges would be a decent Gunnarsson replacement, although I worry he might break down soon. We would also definitely have to trade or buyout Gleason, as having him, Gorges, and Polak all on the team would be overkill. I'd also still ideally be looking for another RH defenceman for the 2nd pairing. Either Stralman or Boyle.

Gorges-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Stralman/Boyle
Rielly-Polak
Holzer

$4M cap hit until 2018. Is he that good? I assume the habs have to clear cap space after the Markov and pending Subban big money deal.

I'd sooner throw that at an FA -Erhoff or Stralman - and give up nothing.

There is no explanation why he has always been treated the way that he has by Toronto.  Don Cherry used to talk about this when Nazem bounced up and down from the AHL and perform well here only to be sent down again.
I think he has had a raw deal in many respects and he probably would not shed a tear by leaving.

That would certainly be an intriguing defense.  A massive retooling of the blueline and I would actually consider that an upgraded defense.  If the Leafs give up Kadri for Gorges though it seems like a really backwards move.  The other possibility is maybe a Lupul for Gorges swap.  The Leafs clear some cap space and could look to get a more versatile winger into their top 6 to shore up the defensive side of the puck.

If it's Kadri for Gorges...I'm out.

If there's even a remote possibility there's any truth to that, everyone running the team needs to be fired.

I have never had so much trepidation that the Leafs are going to screw themselves this off-season*. Bolland for
100 years, Trading of Kadri and Gardiner, Kulemin gone, Komarov not back, some UFA bad signing or two.

* well of course they usually do every UFA season I realize but this year just feels like they are going to ^&^& up big time.

I have very, very little trust in this current management group, but there's no way they're even considering moving Kadri for Gorges. No way.

As for Lupul, I've said a bunch of times I don't have any problem moving him out to get a legitimate top-4 defenceman. Gorges wasn't exactly what I had in mind because I fear where he'll be in a couple of seasons, but I wouldn't exactly mind having to settle for him.

It is a little funny though that when the Canadiens are said to be getting a roster player in exchange for Gorges then Kadri's name is almost going to come up by virtue of the process of elimination. Ruling out the absolute no-chancers then, really, the only possibilities are Franson, Lupul, Kadri and maybe Gardiner? Gleason if the Habs are on the sauce?

This team does not have a lot of players around.

If the Leafs could move Lupul's 5M out and get something of any value back, that would be a win in my books.

But I doubt the Habs have anything more in mind other than moving salary out, not taking anything substantial $ back.

I have a hunch that Franson is going to Tampa.

As far as Gorges goes, I'd rather grab Mark Stuart in a deal for Reimer, if it could be done.

Bingo.  Stuart is a top skater, challenges forwards in front of the net, hits like a freight train and will fight when he needs to.  Oh, and he only makes $2.625 MIL over the next 4 years.  I would say Mark Stuart is what Gleason was before Gleason got vertigo (or something like that) in a harmless looking fight September 21, 2013 against Jared Tinordi in Montreal.

If Gleason has recovered from the balance issues he was struggling with last season which reportedly affected his skating then the Leafs might be content to not give up on him.

Either way, I am not as struck on Josh Gorges as some are here.

Oh and I would offer Franson for Matt Martin and the rights to Dan Boyle
