Kessel to ARI for Galchenyuk

Good deal for Pittsburgh

meh, there's like a 30-point difference between the two players and Galchenyuk is known for being weak defensively as well. I'm surprised they didn't go after a more well-rounded player since that was their biggest complaint with Phil.

I suspect that 30 point difference will be a lot closer when they change teams.

Considering everyone knew they wanted to move him, getting a legit top 6 guy and a quality prospect is a good deal for them.

Kessel hasn't missed a game in 9 years...wow!

It depends on how you parse "miss a game."
Fair but the guy can still score even tho hes never met a hotdog he didnt like.

I keep reading that about Kessel and scoring goals and then I check the stats and it isn't all that impressive??? For the last 5 years he scores at the same rate as Wayne Simmonds. He's good but certainly not as great as the reputation he has.

Nope. Nope as good as his reputation at all.  ::)

Over the last 5 years Kessel ranks 22nd in the league in goals with 135 or an average of 27 per season.

He's definitely had better stretches, from '08-'09 to 13-14 he averaged 34 a year, but I'm not sure he gets so much hype that anyone should be disappointed by him still being a top 25 goal scorer in the league.

Edit: It's also maybe worth focusing on just his 4 seasons with the Pens. Being as he's no longer the main offensive threat on his team he's become more of a playmaker. He's 29th in the league in goals over that span but a pretty impressive 12th in the league in points.

So he's definitely a more well rounded offensive player now. If his goal scoring lags behind his reputation it may just be that reputations, once established, are hard to shake.

I know this has been run through a stager, but I can really see Phil's personality shine through.
