Is it likely an overpay....yes. Will it age poorly....yes. Is a big shot RHD a critical addition to this roster if the team is trying to compete....yes.

That would be great if it is just for a "late round pick"

AFP Analytics had him at $8M/yr x 6 years
That is a lot for 2 good years and one great year greatly assisted by the talent on his team.

But if they're going for the playoffs for Matthews, getting Raddysh helps significantly.

Matthews & Nylander wanted puck movers:

Andrae Villeneuve

The importance of getting this done now is it will help them sign UFAs.
They have a better story to tell:
Their D is improved.
Their goaltending is enhanced with Akhtyamov in the wings and Hildeby providing a capable, healthy platoon
They're about to add the #1 pick overall
They've changed the coach to one willing to adjust the system

They need a couple of centers

Yeah, I really feel Boone Jenner is incoming.
 
It feels like the Leafs are building a team that spends less time in it's own end and more time in the oppositions end. I like that the group appears to have a plan, and are trying to put that plan together. I do fear that if that is in fact their style of play, they will still have a tough time against teams that forecheck heavily, like Florida or Carolina. However, we never did see what a puck possession team with a good defence and good goaltending was capable of achieving.
