Larkin requests trade out of Detroit

Can't see it as good news for Yzerman.
With the shortage of good NHL centers, they should be able to get a decent return

So a dude from Michigan doesn't want to play for the original 6 Red Wings.

My question is how does this reflect badly on the leafs and why is this an indication of how no one wants to play for the leafs.

Guess which team is Larkin’s dad’s favourite team?

Let me attach some more red yarn:
Larkin’s agent is the same agent as another prominent captain of an American team that chose to go home in free agency.

His alleged grievance is his teams haven't been getting in the playoffs and his departure must conclude that isn't going to change substantially any time soon. So the solution is to go from a 15th place team to a 28th place team? I don't think so. That would be a very tough sell for a guy with a no movement clause.

Buffalo could be a good fit. They need a center who can win 50%+ of his faceoffs. They could use improvement with a scoring center. They're on their way up - should be a playoff team for a few years. Pretty close to Michigan/family. They probably have the assets to do a deal. Problem there is with Tuch a UFA, the cap math might be tricky unless they feel good about flipping someone like MacLeod (very doable).

So a team sporting
Matthews
Larkin
Tavares
down the middle will be a 28th overall team next season?
Hopefully not but it may well be the following year if Matthews doesn't hang around, Matthews is looking at a situation that is a lot closer to the Wings than the Golden Knights. Tavares will be 37 the following year and the aged D a year older. They're 28th with no guarantee they'll crack the top 16 next year. They might be able to but that UFA market could dry up quickly with the rise in the cap - there is not a lot out there (over/under on McMann is close to $6 mil/yr). And we have to give up something to get Larkin. What are we going to give Yzerman? A bag of pucks? Yzerman is a lot of good things - stupid is not one of them.

The Wild or Sabres are much better bets if Larkin wants more than one playoff experience with teams that have a chance to do something in the playoffs and have assets they can trade.

I'm a Leafs fan. I'd love Larkin to come for a bag of pucks. I'd love Matthews to sign for another 8 years. But then reality sets in on how that can practically happen ... We are not in a good place. I do not like trying to suck and blow at the same time.

Also remind me how Larkin will fetch a haul because reasons but Leafs players will fetch very little because NMCs. Make it make sense.
