Nej, Anton Str?lman, 25, nobbar elitserien.

Not the best translation, but you can figure out what its about.

I remember back a few years ago he had some potential and some thought he could replace Kaberle, his stock has fallen quite a bit. I think he can be a steady NHL Dman, 3rd pairing, maybe fill in on the 2nd pairing for a bit of time when injuries hit others, maybe he is asking for too much cash/term.

he's got the tools to be an NHLer. Hopefully he can put it together and steal a spot somewhere. I had hoped he'd still be a Maple Leaf, but I think he's a bit redundant now.

He's a RFA with Columbus ~ I'm sure they'll re-sign him considering they only have 6 NHL and 3 farmhand d-men under contract.

He's a UFA, not sure why, it seems they may not have qualified him.

I believe that is what happened, they didn't qualify him and he turned UFA.

I'm a little surprised by this, to be honest. While Stralman was exactly superstar calibre in Columbus, I would have thought he played well enough to earn a contract somewhere. I mean, you'd have to think there's some team out there that could have used another puckmover on the backend.

For those wondering, he's currently with the Devils on a training camp invite.

He may just get some playing time there. I'm not sure if he'll fit their defensive system too well, but I think the ice time is there for him to take.

They definitely need a puckmover on their backend. They only had one dman crack the 20 point plateau last season. Of course, being the lowest scoring team in the league didn't help much, but, that's also partly because of their lack of a transition game.

Yeah, his puck moving game would probably help, I'm just not sure he's tightened up his game on the defensive side of the puck. With how committed Jersey is to the system, Stralman might not have a choice but to conform or sit upstairs.

Well, being that he's not under contract, he won't be sitting upstairs. It'll either be conform or back to Sweden - but, the Devils may also feel that they're solid enough defensively as a team that they can cover for his deficiencies just so they can get his skill set onto the roster.

No, I meant if they actually signed him. I don't think it will be that noticeable right off the hop. I don't think he'll be asking for a lot in contract, so they'll probably end up signing him to a cheap one year or something. I meant if his deficiencies start costing them games or whatever later. Maybe he's calmed down a bit, I haven't really seen him play for a while. Maybe that's why Columbus didn't keep him, otherwise, why would they have let him go at this age?

Devils' 23-man roster does not include unsigned Anton Stralman

He might still make it but it doesn't look good.

He's still skating with the Devils NHL team

and still without a contract ...

And there's Lou stretching the rules to the limit ...  ;)

I think offensive dman have a harder time showing their worth to the team.  When they break in to the league it is on the 3rd pair which means they won't get many minutes to put up points, it is doubtful they will see time on the PP and their partners are usually 4th line forward quality.  A defensive dman just has to have a good plus minus and the coach likes him.

Lamoriello said unsigned defenseman Anton Stralman returned home to Sweden but could still be in the Devils' plans.
"He went back home. That doesn't mean he's out of the picture," Lamoriello said. "Right now nothing can be done."
