RHP Marco Estrada vs. RHP Chris Tillman

In absolute Hilarity Chris Tillman is going to make his 6th start against the Jays.  You may remember him from such classics as 3IP - 6ER, 1.1IP - 6ER, 6.2IP - 5ER, 4.1IP - 7ER, 2.2IP - 7ER.

RHP Marcus Stroman vs. RHP Miguel Gonzalez

Bautista hits an RBI single off O'Day in the 8th to tie it up at 3.

Pillar just made a ridiculous dive to avoid a tag.  Unfortunately Joe West is the home plate umpire and he has to make his routine awful call.  Somehow they don't overturn it in New York.  That's some interesting garbage.  There is a clear view that shows nothing remotely close to a tag.

Jays are up 4-3 anyway.

West is awful.  Already was sick of his terrible outside strikes to lefties all night.

Tulowitzki took essentially full batting practice today too (shortened by rain but he hit inside).  He looks ready to get back out in the field.

Jays win.  Boston up 5-1 on the Yankees in the 9th.  Cubs and Royals tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 7th but have 2 runners on and nobody out.

reporterchris: The @BlueJays are 41-14 since trading for Troy Tulowitzki on July 29. Incredible.

Not a bad run.

Not a bad run.

They were around 11 behind the Royals and 4 behind the Yankees at that point.

50-50 at the time of the trade (and 50-51) before Tulowitzki stepped into the lineup.  The Yankees were 15 games over .500 at that point and the Jays were 8-games back of the Yankees.  They were 4th in the AL East.

The Jays are now 5 games up on the Yankees.  A 13-game swing.

Yeah. I mean, obviously, it's more correlation than causation (at least, direct causation), but the trade seemed to energize the team a little, and the trades that came afterwards really gave them a boost.

Also, there is a reason people preach run differential. Things were bound to start going the team's way after some historically bad luck.

Sure, as long as acquiring a Cy Young ace pitcher, a decent major league LF (who has also hit about .320 with the team) to take the place of bad minor league left fielding, two good/great bullpen arms and moving another great bullpen arm into an average bullpen, and a bunch of stellar defensive 2B/SS's on the bench, to go along with a perennial all-star SS, is all part of the equation as well.

Also means "in addition to".

Yes, it does. And your "also" or "in addition to" adds nothing to the original premise. The team is where it is because of the trade and trades Busta alluded to, not because their run-differential luck changed.
