NYR
?Igor Shesterkin (11-7-0, 2.91 GAA, .904 Sv%) will likely start for the Rangers

TOR
?Martin Jones (3-0-0, 1.85 GAA, .949 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Thinking that a shutout in his last game and a win against the Rangers last week will be enough to get Jones a 2nd straight start
?Brodie was unable to take part in yesterday's full practice due to his illness so there is a possibility he misses his 2nd straight game
?The Leafs will be honouring Captain John Tavares for his 1,000th career NHL point during a ceremony at tonight's game

Interesting...I had thought they'd give it back to Samsonov.

I think it's an easy sell to say they're going with the hot hand. No insult to Samsonov that way.

In the last Rangers game, the Leafs started Jones to good-ish effect. But they also went 11/7 on the second night of a B2B after an emotional storybook come-from-behind OT loss.

I think he deserved it. This isn't an Erik Kallgren 3G situation, the Leafs signed Martin Jones expecting him to be a NHL-calibre goalie. And with Samsonov's play being what it is there's no reason to play him every game just because Woll is out. I'd expect the next two games before the break to get split between the two of them.

There's probably a point where it becomes a waive Samsonov situation, because if Jones is outplaying Sammy, there's no way Jones goes back down unclaimed.

Nobody's taking Sammy, so it's kind of a no brainer.

Samsonov is facing the double whammy of a) new kid b) arbitration hearing

Hoping we don?t need to pad this stat tonight

I?m not and I?d run with Jones until he has a poor outing. Read the other day LA looking for help as Copley out long term. Treliving hopefully making some calls. To bad Woll is hurt which makes trading him off now tough but swing a deal Brad.

Would have loved to have seen the Domi-Marner-Knies line stay together. Move them up to the #2 line drop Tavares down to 3rd line and see how it plays out. Doesn?t surprise me Keefe back to usual lines.

From what I myself have learned about this team, despite most times playing UP to a good
team's level, I fully expect a bad game from the Leafs because of the Pens game.

Now hopefully this will be a reverse jinx.....

Jones earned the start. Good for him.

The Rangers will be looking for some payback tonight ...

That's what I was thinking.

Let's hope that the 5-goal comeback game woke up something and they go on a sustained streak of solid play.

I was thinking the same thing. If Jones wins tonight or even looks really good between the pipes I think you got to send Sammy down through waivers when the time comes. Of course there?s still time for Sammy to redeem himself, but Jones had been looking pretty good of late, albeit in a small sample size so far.

Unless there?s a major goalie injury, Jones also goes unclaimed. He?s had a nice few games, but he?s a known quantity. Based on his last few seasons, teams know there?s little to no chance of him keeping up this level of play over the long-term. He?s absolutely capable of short stretches of quality play, but that?s all anyone should count on him for.

This isn?t new for him. He?s done this before.

This is wisdom.  Jones has regress-to-the-mean written all over him.
