Quick gets 10 years in LA.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Told first 7 yrs of Quick's deal worth $7 M per year before tapering off in final 3 years to bring down cap hit ...

That's a spicy meatball. He's still a pretty young guy though, so he could actually play through the entirety of this contract and then some. That can't be said for most of the other long term mega deals that have been handed out since the new CBA.

Exactly. This isn't in the Luongo end of the spectrum. Quick playing at 36 is actually kind of likely.

TSNBobMcKenzie: The Jonathan Quick deal is 10 years with an AAV of north of $5.5 and south of $6M, so total value between 55-60M.

I don't know. 8 years from now is a loooooong time.  There's plenty of opportunity for his career to flame out by then. It may not be "likely" but we'll see.

TSNBobMcKenzie: I see where others are reporting $58M as total value of Quick deal and that appears to be correct. Next on the tee: Carey Price.

Sure, but you can say that about any player at any time. No one can predict the future, but betting on a guy like Quick to stay healthy and play for another ten years is pretty safe by NHL standards.

It is a long time, no doubt. Lots can happen there. But a goalie playing at age 36 isn't close to unheard of. At 42, 43, 44...well...

That's true, but, goalies tend to be more volatile than players in other positions. He may be able to play for another 10 years, but, will be be worth his contract for another 10 years?

Decent cap hit, actually. 550k difference between him and Dennis Wideman.

It is possible that he isn't. But it is also possible that at a 5.8M cap hit, he's a tremendous value for a good number of years. 10 years is a long time...not quite DiPietro long, but long enough...

If he holds up, for sure. If not, he's not even overpaid by today's standards. In 2022, we'll probably look at his deal like we look at Armstrong's.

Looks familiar.  :-\

He's 26 now so the deal ends when he's 36 and tapers off in the last three years, starting at 33.

Luongo has 10 years left and he's 33 now.

It's still kind of stunning. He's come a long way in a pretty short time and really cashed in.
