Marner won the Memorial Cup in 2016 D+1 and had 14 pts in the tournament to lead all scorers (2G-12A)

Guess who did most of the damage in the finals though

Marner was brilliant that year. There's a reason he got the Memorial Cup MVP, The CHL Player of the Year, The League MVP and the Playoff MVP. Second player in history to do that and he was awesome in the final game.

This isn't exactly breaking news but man what a depressing list of prospects. Really hoping one of the NCAA guys brought in like Quillan, Haymes, Webber, or Prokop can eventually break through and be a NHLer.

Or get good-looking enough to be traded for an existing NHLer.

Niemela's of course been rumored to do the same. Man that trade sure did blow up in our face after all the fanbase's gloating. Not that I think Kleven's anything special but still a NHLer.

I am very mad that my gloat was for naught. FOR NAUGHT.

Because they don't feel they have a path to the NHL, and, in that case, they'd rather play closer to home.
Not crazy to think they'd even earn more money there as opposed to playing on a likely two-way deal in the minors.

Niemela got a signing bonus of $85K yearly and yearly salary of $80K. $165K each year for the last three years. SHL seems to be in a financial crunch on the overall, not sure how much more he is making there.

In the KHL maybe. Not so much in the other European leagues - at least, not significantly more. Lots of those league pay similarly to AHL/two-way deals for guys that have no real chance at NHL time. But, being closer to home is a huge upgrade at similar pay. Not to mention shorter distances to travel for road games and other perks that come from being in a European country compared to most AHL cities.
